Designview is a centralised search tool created by EUIPO, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the Agency responsible for managing trademark and the registered Community design. The database allows professionals and Internet user to search, free of charge, design applications and registrations provided by the participating offices through this single and unique platform.
The database content is not restricted to designs provided by National IP Offices of the EU member states, it includes also information made available by IP Offices of other countries thus representing a valuable source of information on designs and registrations at global level.
For each design available in the catalogue, visitors can gather information on the legal status, representations of designs, owner, representative etc. links to the EUIPO and national databases.

How does the database works?
Let's try to find a trademark registered by IKEA. On the left you can see a picture of the Nordmarke charger. A product available on the online UK IKEA store.
If we just look for the word charger in the basic search field on DesignView, the catalogue will prompt 1687 pages of results covering chargers utilise in all possible industry sectors...
Therefore, I will suggest to use the advanced search option.

Along with the indication of the type of product under the indication of the product, we are going to add the reference to the producer. At this stage, by typing in the "organisation name" field the word IKEA, the system will help us prompting the registered name of the multinational company, namely Inter IKEA Systems B.V., the company established in 1983 in the Netherlands which is the owner of the IKEA Concept and the worldwide IKEA franchisor. Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is owned by Inter IKEA Holding B.V.

The design section alone includes the primary details on the application number, presentation and expire dates trademark. Additionally also the reference to the law firm (representative).
